FLEET is a creative approach and contribution to ongoing efforts to build more studio opportunities for artists. Beginning in 2019, FLEET is a multi-year project, where Other Sights for Artists Projects planned, designed and piloted a set of two mobile art studios hosting artist residencies, events, programming and much more. These studios are currently operational and funding has been secured to fabricate a third studio that prioritizes use for Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh communities in early 2027. Other Sights manages each studio and delivers the related community programming in partnership with diverse local organizations and artists. In the fabrication of the first two studios, significant community consultation was undertaken, resulting in project recommendations and a Feasibility study. FLEET’s visible presence draws attention to Vancouver’s artistic community’s space deficit and foregrounds the need to share the public spaces of the city more equitably.
This is a community minded role where the successful applicant will work with many different artists and organizations connected to the FLEET Project: FLEET’s General Manager, FLEET’s Project Manager, FLEET’s Indigenous Advisory Committee and Other Sights. FLEET and Other Sights are committed to furthering our ongoing relationships with Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh. The incumbent will play a fundamental role in continuing Other Sights’ conversations with Host Nations and continuing to build opportunities for collaboration and partnership. The Community Liaison will work with The FLEET General Manager to develop the potential for FLEET’s new studio (fabrication in-process) to reside on Indigenous territory, as determined by guidance and input from the Nation/s. Ideally this dedicated MST FLEET studio would become an Indigenous led space and resource, an exciting cultural amenity supporting the needs and activities of the community. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis candidates.

Other Sights works to cultivate positive environments that are “safe” for our team, and the communities and artists we work with, to thrive. This is a key aspect to the work that we do and is rooted in a wider view of accessibility – who gets to experience public art and how? Exploring spaces of contestation and sites of unclear jurisdiction, both physically and conceptually, we work to amplify a diverse range of voices and perspectives. Other Sights and FLEET are a team of individuals with diverse perspectives, skills and backgrounds. We welcome the unique contributions that you can bring to this project and we look forward to hearing from you.
